Plumbers working on new homes in the Pimpama Coomera region have taken part in a workshop to equip them with the information they need to install and carry out maintenance work on dual reticulated properties that are ready to receive Class A+ recycled water.

Plumbers were invited to the Pimpama Recycled Water Treatment Plant (RWTP) and took part in an information workshop. This provided them with advice and information on working in areas plumbed to receive Class A+ recycled water.

The plumbers also learnt more about the Class A+ recycled water treatment process during a site tour of the $80 million state of the art facility.

Plumbers are expected to connect all new homes in the Pimpama Coomera region to three different sources of water - drinking water, rainwater and Class A+ recycled water.

Council's Plumbing Inspector Peter Northey said it was an excellent opportunity for Plumbers to see first hand how Class A+ recycled water is produced.

“The visit to the RWTP was invaluable for those plumbers keen to learn more about this exciting new product, ” said Peter Northey.

“The response was positive and plenty of questions were asked to ensure that Plumbers are aware of the requirements and their responsibilities for connecting houses and businesses to Class A+ recycled water.”

Finally, the plumbers were reminded of the seven step dual reticulation cross connection check to ensure all properties are properly connected.

Hundreds of excited guests attended a community open day at the Pimpama Recycled Water Treatment Plant last month and learnt more about the Class A+ recycled water treatment process.

The event celebrated the upcoming delivery of Class A+ recycled water.

The free event included tours of the $80 million state of the art treatment plant, sustainable living displays, plant giveaways, sustainable gardening workshops, fun children’s activities, a free sausage sizzle and much more.

Council’s Water Management Chair and Deputy Mayor, Councillor Daphne McDonald said the open day was a huge success.

“Families who attended are now able to better understand the Class A+ recycled water treatment process and how to make the most of this unique water source,” Cr McDonald said.

“Over 3000 homes will soon receive Class A+ recycled water, so it is vital that they are well educated about its uses in outdoor areas and for toilet flushing,”

“We are now entering a very exciting time for Pimpama and Coomera residents, with the launch of Class A+ recycled water later this year.”

Members of the Pimpama Coomera Waterfuture (PCWF) Community Advocacy Group (CAG) have joined forces with Gold Coast Water to help spread the word about Class A+ recycled water and the Pimpama Coomera Waterfuture Master Plan.

Gold Coast Water invited 11 community members to join the CAG earlier this year. Members have attended a series of meetings to learn more about the project and are now sharing their knowledge with the community.

CAG members Aicha Bah, Abbey Wilson and Ansel Collatz presented information about the project to hundreds of their follow students at Coomera Anglican College.

What is the Pimpama Coomera Waterfuture Master Plan?

image: purple hose

The PCWF Master Plan aims to secure a sustainable water future for residents of the 7,000 hectare Pimpama Coomera region by significantly reducing the use of precious drinking water. It is Australia's largest integrated urban water cycle management program.

High quality Class A+ recycled water will be produced at a new recycled water plant in Pimpama. Later this year, Class A+ recycled water will be supplied via a separate purple pipe network for non-drinking purposes such as toilet flushing, garden watering, car washing and external cleaning.

Rainwater tanks supply the cold water laundry tap and an external tap. Water Sensitive Urban Design (WSUD) uses engineered landscaping features to help slow, reduce and filter stormwater run-off and improve environmental outcomes for Moreton Bay.

Take a look at the poster showing how homes in Pimpama Coomera will use multiple water sources (Adobe PDF 202kb).
