Encourage your employees to lawfully use fire hoses

Did you know the penalty for using a fire hose for a purpose other than fire fighting is an on-the-spot fine of $500? Council can also pursue the matter in court where fines of up to $100,000 can be imposed on an offender or company.
As well as financial penalties, unauthorised uses of fire hoses - such as cleaning buildings and vehicles - can cause damage to the hose, making it ineffective.
To help prevent the misuse of fire hoses, Gold Coast Water is offering all businesses free warning stickers and prevention tags approved by Queensland Fire and Rescue.
Deter inappropriate fire hose use at your workplace. Order your stickers and/or tags by calling the Gold Coast Water Contact Centre on 1300 366 692 and leave your contact details as well as the number of stickers/tags you require. A Gold Coast Water representative will contact you soon after to arrange a suitable time to visit your property and assist in installing the stickers and tags.

Waterfuture scholarships encourage careers in water

Chair of the Water
Management
Committee,
Councillor
Daphne McDonald,
congratulates Jay Gorasia
Gold Coast student and Australian Duke of Edinburgh bronze award recipient, Jay Gorasia, has been awarded a Gold Coast Waterfuture Scholarship for demonstrating leadership potential in the water industry.
Jay is the fourth and final student to receive a scholarship that covers up to $15,000 towards the first year of his undergraduate degree and an opportunity to undertake work experience at Gold Coast Water during his study.
The scholarship signifies Gold Coast Water’s commitment to the city’s water future and an investment in the growth of specialist skills to meet demand in the rapidly developing water industry.
Scholarship applicants were assessed on their academic results, personal achievements and their submission of an essay detailing ‘my interest in water resources’. Short-listed applicants were then interviewed by a panel consisting of two Gold Coast Water representatives.
For further information please contact Gold Coast Water on 1300 366 692 or visit www.goldcoastwater.com.au
Complimentary Watersaver materials
Encourage your staff and visitors to be water conscious at your place of business. Gold Coast Water has complimentary bathroom stickers that have been tested in a number of marinas, shopping centres and hotels on the Gold Coast, proving to be beneficial in reminding staff & visitors to be water efficient in the bathroom.
These stickers also subconsciously reinforce water conservation messages, leading to water efficient behaviour in other areas.
For maximum exposure we recommend you position a sticker above the basin area and on the cistern of each toilet. The stickers are non-marking stickers and suitable to be placed on mirrors.
To place your order simply email watersaver@goldcoastwater.com.au and include your business name, postal address and the number of stickers you require.
